What is wrong with black men!

On Friday I was having a conversation with two female colleagues, one of who holds a senior position in our organisation.

A male colleague walked by and I jokingly commented to the two that he was disappointed that a young female coworker had to pull out of their trip out of town. (The male, senior and young female were supposed to go together.)

The senior colleague out of the blue exclaimed: “What is wrong with black men!”

“HUH” I thought, but said nothing. I was a bit taken aback because we work in a very progressive organisation where such generalisations would get you a few weeks in diversity training.

She wondered though why black men disrespected women who were already in relationships by continuing to pursue them. And she thought that they acted entitled.

“And this is a black man thing?” I thought while remembering all the married and otherwise taken men of various colours and creeds who pursued me. Regardless of their or my relationship status.

So today I broached the subject with my male colleague in the break room. He was of course none too happy, although pretended that he didn’t care.

A few others joined the conversation and we agreed that it was a male thing, not only confined to one grouping.

However, I mentioned that black men were just a lot more brazen and aggressive in their pursuit. Or that was my perception.

And also the perception of many other women.

A young male intern then chimed in with “What about women who aggressively pursue men?”

“The majority of women who are in happy committed relationships do not pursue men.” I said.

“But the reverse can’t be said.”

The conversation took another turn when someone told us that her husband would never cheat.

The room went silent.

Again I thought to myself it was possibly true, but most women think that way.

We have to.

Gerald Majola must go!

The current cricket series against Australia is sponsor-less and a lot has to do with the way Cricket SA has allowed Gerald Majola to run the sport.

Hopefully they are paying the Aussies with the money Majola set aside for himself when the IPL hosted their tournament in SA a season or two ago.

However they are financing this tour, at least we can safely say that Majola and co is not benefiting financially from sponsorship meant for the development of cricket. Because no corporate has been foolish enough to give them more money to spend on themselves.

(Sponsors logos have been replaced by CSA Facebook and Twitter addresses.)

Of course this blog has never been a supporter of Majkola. In fact, quite the opposite.

He has always come across as a smooth operator, with little interest in transforming cricket. Although now another president of CSA had to be sacked by the CSA board of idiots so that Majola’s ego could be further stroked and so that his self enrichment can continue.

First Norman Arendse, and now Mtutuzeli Nyoka.

Seriously, who shoots the messenger in such a public way? Even going against public opinion?

Only the arrogant! And stupid!

We’ve been seeing a lot of Fikile Mbalula the Minister of Sport lately. And the less we see of him the better. But in this case, this blog will support any efforts to rid our favourite sport of corruption.

And if in the process Gerald Majola gets the boot, this blog won’t be shedding any tears. Although we would have to find another villain.

Blackberry Blackout!

Apparently half of the Blackberry world is experiencing a painful RIM blackout!

No Twitter, BBM, Facebook, WordPress Apps or e-mail for that matter.

The problem is being experienced in the whole of Africa, Europe and Asia.

I must admit I used a few choice words aimed at Vodacom, but it isn’t their fault this time.

Hopefully they’ll sort themselves out soon.

Springboks out of the World Cup :(

Sjoe! So that’s Rugby World Cup 2011 for the Springboks. Over and done with.

The team played with so much heart that we almost forget that some people didn’t believe they would make it to the quarter-finals. And make it hard to be critical of them.

Because they were supposedly in the group of death.

And the players were not exactly young and sprightly. Oh and Peter de Villiers was not Jake White!

So while I am very proud of the players and coaching team for being competitive against all odds, we are ranked as one of the top 3 test playing rugby nations. And losing in the quarter finals is nothing to be proud of.

Surely there are no more disappointed people than the players themselves and many of them will never play at a World Cup again.

So well played to them…

But they did lose in the quarter finals of a rugby world cup.

And questions have to be asked in the aftermath.

Like…was it the right choice to go with so much experience? Or to be less politically correct – older players.

We’ll never know. Although what we do know is that the younger players brought an energy to the matches when they were on the field.

But the experienced players helped win the group matches.

So that’s that.

Here’s hoping for a much better performance and result in England in 2015.
