So last night Julius Malema on e-tv news, fresh from being re-elected ANC Youth League president, apologised to the Jacob Zuma’s rape accussor (and all the women of South Africa).
He is apparently sorry for saying she enjoyed being raped. Of course he was ordered to do so by Human Rights Commission and also ordered to pay a fine of R50 000 as retribution.
But, he concluded, his apology did not stretch as far as DA spokesperson Lindiwe Mazibuko.
He apologised to all the women of South Africa, but not to that tea girl, he said on the news.
Because she only says what her madam tells her; she doesn’t have a mind of her own.
During pre-local election campaigning, he also called her out in the media, refusing to debate with a tea girl, claiming he would only debate with her madam Helen Zille.
As amusing as I find the comments, it does make me wonder about Julius Malema’s motives.
Could our Julius have a little school ground crush on the very colonial sounding Ms Lindiwe Mazibuko?
Could she represent the clever girl at high school who was way out of his league and who he teased mercilessly just to get a bit of her attention?
Be a man! Time to own up Julius!

Today I attended a workshop at work, which I hadn’t intended going to.
But my colleague really annoyed me yesterday, so I wouldn’t accept her help filming the workshop.
And I had an idea of how I wanted the video to look when I put on YouTube to be fair.
But I was still feeling a bit sore about a prank said colleague pulled on me, for her own entertainment. Or so I believed,
So there we were in a workshop, facilitated by an Australian professor visiting our shores….confronted by the question “Who’s truth”
The facilitator went on to encourage critical reflection – as in critically evaluating the different sides of the same story.
I was left wondering what my colleague’s motivation was for calling me away from my desk to do a task that wasn’t required at all.
What she didn’t know was that I was exhausted and busy. And that our relationship isn’t exactly light-hearted and fun as we have with some others in the office.
The answer to that I don’t know. Maybe I will ask her tomorrow.
For all I know she may have wanted to lighten the relationship between us. Or take revenge for a perceived injustice I did to her. Or entertain or impress the third party involved in the prank.
Or maybe she had no motivation and reacted in the spur of the moment? Or thought I deserved it.
Fortunately I’m only responsible for my own thoughts, feelings and motivations.
The only way to know someone else’s reasoning is if they tell us. Of course the reverse is also true. If you want someone to know your thoughts, opinion or feelings, you have to tell them!
Either way, it got me into an interesting workshop and it has me thinking about truth and stories. And I learnt something new.
Ironic, wouldn’t you say?

So it’s into the semi-finals for the second time in two years for the Stormers. Hopefully this time we go one step better and win the damn trophy.
Their semi-final will be at Newlands which should help…although for some reason other teams have been getting lots of support here in Cape Town.
I wonder why…
Of course the New Zealand teams and particularly the All Blacks, have traditionally received support from the some on the Cape Flats.
Not that I get it where the Stormers or WP are concerned. The Springboks, to a certain extent, yes.
I admittedly supported the All Blacks during the isolation era. Maybe it was the name
or their open style of rugby? But that was a long time ago. I don’t know why I chose them in particular. Although it might have had something to do with my grandfather who died in 1983.
(We watched the Springboks ill-fated tour to New Zealand on tv… one of my earlier memories.)
Anyway, we make our choices for whatever reason.
I am and have always been a Western Province supporter even though I loathe the politics of this city.
Sport is separate from politics in my mind. Unless of course the Stormers or WP pick an all white team
The support for especially the Bulls and the Sharks at Newlands could mean their supporters are moving to Cape Town in droves. Heaven forbid!
Regardless of the politics of sport, here’s wishing the Crusaders and Sharks a tough well fought game on Saturday. May the tire each other out while the Stormers chill out and rest.
Which ever team wins (I hardly care who), here’s looking towards a Stormers final at Newlands in a few week’s time. And of course a Super 15 trophy.

Another day, another diet, people. And this one is apparently recommended by all and sundry as “the best diet of all”.
It’s for weight loss of course, but also for those with heart disease and for diabetics.
Any diet that encourages eating plenty of natural food is alright with me.
However, as always, this blog discourages diets of any sort. Eating healthy natural food and enjoying exercise in whatever form that makes you happy is the way to go.
But if you choose a diet, here’s another one for Monday. It looks sensible enough to me.
Here’s a day of typical meals on a 2,000-calorie DASH diet at a 2,300 mg. sodium level. Substitutions for a 1,500 mg. sodium level are in parentheses.
Breakfast
¾ cup bran flakes cereal (¾ cup shredded wheat cereal) with 1 medium banana and 1 cup low-fat milk
1 slice whole-wheat bread with 1 tsp. (unsalted) margarine
1 cup orange juice
Lunch
Sandwich—
2 slices whole-wheat bread
¾ cup (unsalted) chicken salad
1 tbsp. Dijon (regular) mustard
Salad—
½ cup fresh cucumber slices
½ cup tomato wedges
1 tbsp. sunflower seeds
1 tsp. low-calorie Italian dressing
½ cup fruit cocktail
Dinner
3 ounces beef, eye of the round, with 2 tbsp. fat-free beef gravy
1 cup green beans, sautéed with ½ tsp. canola oil
1 small baked potato topped with 1 tbsp. fat-free sour cream, 1 tbsp. grated, reduced-fat natural (low-sodium) cheddar cheese and 1 tbsp. chopped scallions
1 small whole-wheat roll with 1 tsp. (unsalted) soft margarine
1 small apple
1 cup low-fat milk
Snacks
1/3 cup almonds, unsalted
¼ cup raisins
½ cup fat-free, no-sugar-added fruit yogurt on a 2,000-calorie DASH diet at a 2,300 mg. sodium level. Substitutions for a 1,500 mg. sodium level are in parentheses.
