Friends

My walking buddy and I were chatting the other day while on one of our (rare these days) walks. I asked her if she remembers how we used to talk on the phone for hours and hours a few years ago.

And it wasn’t just with her – I had two other girl friends and my boyfriend at the time who I did the same with. I practically lived on the phone.

That and online activities.

I used to subscribe to the Telkom after 7.00pm product. Where you could chat as long as you want between 7.00pm and 7.00am.

My family barely saw me!

Don’t even ask where I found the time, because I used to work a full time job until 4.45pm and then rush across the city to my second job which started at 5.00pm until 9.00pm.

The only way to stay in contact with my friends was telephonically or through IM.

Now I barely have time for a 15 minute call. Although I told my walking buddy that I missed those hours long chats. Our lifestyles have completely changed from those days anyway.

But I wanted some of it back so I called one of my girl friends the other evening, instead of doing an assignment. We caught up on family stuff and boyfriend stuff and agreed to do lunch very soon.

It was so much fun! I once again missed my real friends. The ones who I know will still be around 20. 30. 40 years from now.

Best thing about friendship is the fact that you may not see or talk to them in a while, but when you do, it feels like you’ve never been apart.
