What if I won the Lotto Powerball

At last check the Lotto Powerball was around R40 million. I’m not sure if anyone won it last night.

If no one won, the Powerball jackpot might be over 50 million Rand on Friday 2 July!

If I won that jackpot, picture this:

I would:

1. Quit my job! Immediately. No passing begin, no collecting R200.

2. After taking care of my family and a few charities I will book us a holiday. A secluded place with sunshine and hot temperatures. Arghhh I’ll first book the holiday.

3. Of course I will have to be a responsible adult and secure a lot of the 40+ million. So I never have to work another day in my life or think to much about my money.

4. Book our next holiday. To another warm place.

5. Find a nice secure house in my current surrounding neighbourhood.

6. Go on holiday. To (yes you’ve guessed it) another warm country.

7. Check in with family and friends – so they don’t think my lotto winnings have given me a big head. Although I might have a new accent with the jetsetting and all.

8. Go find myself at a luxury retreat (in a hot location!)

9. Come home to fetch my two best friends for another holiday in the sun, spa, whatever. As long as there’s sunshine and massages.

10. Pretty much live the life I’m living now, but no working and a few overseas and local holidays a year.

I better get my Powerball ticket!

Is there life after the World Cup?

OMW! There will not be any soccer matches tomorrow and Thursday! And there are only nine games left, including tonight’s big Spain vs Portugal.

How will we soccer lovers survive?

I’m already thinking of downloading a vuvuzela ringtone for my phone, just in case I miss the noise.

Soccer has pretty much made other sporting events pale in comparison.

Rugby seemed flat and boring. Tennis – yawn. Cricket – another yawn.

Even last night’s Survivor held only marginal interest.

It’s those vuvuzelas, I tell you.

But even good things have to eventually must come to an end.

I’m just not ready yet.

Office Email Politics

Right now I’m physically and mentally exhausted. So I’m off sick today and maybe tomorrow.

The straw that broke the camel’s back (not literally – although I thought of a sore back as an excuse for staying home) was receiving an email addressed to me and cc’d to half of our department, to remind me to remove batteries from our digital cameras.

WTF?

If that’s not enough to make anyone ill, what is?

Seriously though, email must be one of the worst communication tools in the office, especially when there’s already underlying tension.

Depending who sent the above mentioned email (and of course the mood of the recipient) and who gets cc’d can be open to many interpretations.

Even if nothing sinister was intended.

Anyway, I seldom take a sickie although I speak wistfully of getting the flu. To no effect.

I’m far too healthy for my own good.

As a recent matter of course, I seldom send emails or reply to them, unless its project specific.

Mostly I just get up and ask or report information in person.

But back to my sick leave…

This morning I emailed (no kidding) our department manager and Facebook messaged the receptionist that I would be off sick.

I said I wasn’t feeling well (the truth). No made up excuses.

Hair Drama!

I last cut my hair in April, so it was time to cut again. A few weeks ago!

For three Saturday mornings I found reasons to put it off.

Since I was on leave Friday, it seemed like the right time. But something more interesting came up.

Saturday morning I had no more excuses, so phoned for an appointment. They only had one for 3pm.

When I arrived, they had no appointment marked for me, but one of the stylists agreed to give me a dry cut.

I told her “not too short “.

I might as well have not said anything at all.

It started well enough with just a small heap of hair gathering on the floor. When I looked in the mirror, I still looked like me.

Next thing she started doing an Edward Scissorhands impersonation, with hair dropping left, right and centre leaving me looking like me, but with a horrible haircut.

When I got home, not a word was said.

Sunday we went for lunch and soccer to my brother’s place and again no one said a word.

Eventually my sister arrived. “Did you see what that freaking hairdresser did to my hair?” I complained.

My sister stared at me. Stared at my hair.

“WHAT?” I asked, getting really worried. I wondered if it was even worse than I thought.

And I already thought it was pretty bad.

Still staring at me with a puzzled look she asked, “You cut your hair?”

“It looks the same as always.”

Relief! Thank goodness!

Although now I’m wondering what it looked like before.

My Saving Grace!

These days I’m finding it a bit difficult to be at work.  It comes from not being able to trust the people around me.

Need I bring up the gossiping and bad office conduct again?

Anyway, I’ll be moving into a new office area (where I’ll hopefully be less visible) within the next two months. And I’m taking a few days leave in July. So there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

Meanwhile my saving grace right now is our fragrant garden, which I helped plant just more than a year ago. I visit it at least once day to remove dead leaves and flowers. And just breathe in the scent.

It’s a few minutes where I’m away from my desk, but it’s also a few minutes where I don’t feel like I need to be wary – unless of course someone somehow decides to join me.  Fortunately it doesn’t happen often.

Our lavender is flowering, as you can see above.  I’m loving it!

We also have mint, rosemary, and some other stuff that isn’t as easy to remember.

My new office space is supposedly going to look out on the garden.  I can hardly wait!
