My Mitchell’s Plain Aunty: I nearly got outed by my sister!

Written on May 17, 2010 – 1:20 am | by Glass Pearl |

Family!  I tell you! They can drive you to write horrible things on the internet!

Let me start by saying that I adore my sister.  She’s one of my favourite people in the world.

Now that she’s grown past the whiny brat younger sister stage.

Since she’s given me three of the cutest nieces an aunty could ask for, I forgive her for those years when I had to put up with her brattish ways.

Anyway, I’m off the point…

On Mother’s Day we were just finishing off a lovely lunch.  Actually they were.  Being a vegetarian in my family is like being refugee in this country.

No one gives a damn!
The dessert was good though.  Malva and sago puddings with custard and some pastries and cakes.

As I was saying, we were just done with lunch when my sister mentioned my Mitchell’s Plain aunty.  Just loud enough for my mother to hear.

“Who?” I said.

“You know who…” she replied.  “The one you write about on the internet.”

Then she mentioned an aunty’s name.  Fortunately the wrong one! (I have more than one Mitchell’s Plain aunty.)   I was  fully prepared to lie if I had to.

Fortunately I didn’t have to, sjoe!

“What are you talking about?”  “I’ve never written about aunty X!”

She shook her head.

I swear I saw that same mischievous look on her face when she was 10 years old!

“Stop trying to cause trouble!” I told her.  Pretty much like I did when she was 10!

“I recognise some of those stories,” she just wouldn’t let it go.

With that I took another spoonful of pudding and mumbled something unintelligable.

My mother looked up at us for a moment and then just pretended she had no clue what we were on about.  Just like when my sister was 10 years old.

Brat!

LOL! Ja jong, younger sisters can be the most horrific of the universe’s creations.

Hey Claudine…how do you like those Stormers? I was surprised how the Bulls did us a favour by playing a weaker team on Saturday.

About the sister thing – its funny how we sometimes revert back to how our relationship used to be when we were children LOL.

With my brother it’s even worse although we only see each other every few years as he lives overseas. Luckily it’s just playful bantering.

Man I was enormously stoked! They played like I always knew they could. I just loved driving through my very Pretorian conservative neighbourhood and seeing all the flags at half mast. Yes, there are some people here who hoist the Bulls flag at every game and mourn when they lose. It’s truly a religion here :) .

Strategically, they did themselves and us a huge favour by resting key players. I’m just sooo impressed with Bakkies though. WTG on outing yourself for 4 weeks. Dork.

My sis is 5 years younger. She was always a little terror growing up. When she left high school we started getting along much better and we get on very well now that she is in her mid 30s. Sometimes though those two naughty children make an appearance.
