The Charming Man by Marian Keyes was a charming novel, even if the man in question wasn’t.
I really enjoyed the stories told from the perspectives of four different women who were all involved with Paddy de Councy at one time or another.
My favourite was Lola who found out she was dumped when Paddy’s engagement to Alicia was announced.
Lola was despatched to a small Irish town by her best friends to recover. She makes a new life for herself and in the process makes a few new (eccentric) friends.
I laughed out loud many times at Lola’s adventures.
The other three main characters are Grace a journalist, her twin sister Marnie and Alicia the bride to be.
Even after 800+ pages, I didn’t want the story to end. A fun summer read though if you like dramatic chic-lit with a happy ending.

My name is Abby and I’m an addict.
Addicted to internet on my cellphone that is.
I blame it on Opera Mini! Because I can’t blame this one on my parents or my childhood.
While cellphone addiction isn’t exactly frowned upon in the same way as say alcoholism or drug or even sex addiction (Tiger)…
Wait!
Am I sounding like a typical addict in denial…already deflecting responsibility and making excuses two paragraphs in?
Either way, I had major withdrawal symptoms this past weekend when I switched my cellphone off.
Almost immediately I felt a huge sense of loss. What was I supposed to do with my thumbs for two whole days AND three long nights?
And I felt the compulsion to check if I had Facebook messages in my inbox.
What if I got defriended again due to another misunderstanding?
What if I was again asked to put my favourite weather (hot and steamy) in my status update in attempt to drive male friends crazy. As if!
I was tempted to log on and explain my absence to my nearest and dearest and those I hardly know. But I didn’t.
It’s hard being a drama queen without a cellphone.
And it doesn’t matter that most of my other cellphone endeavours do not include any sinister activities like online gambling, cybersexing (I deny even knowing what that is) or stalking ex-boyfriends.
It hardly matters that my social life hasn’t changed much, as cellphones are mobile and I can play on it anywhere.
No Mxit or online chatting for me. Okay so I’m one of those who think I’m slightly more sophisticated or something because I don’t Mxit.
Almost like when Whitney told Oprah she was addicted to rock cocaine mixed with dagga, but she was no crack ho.
Oh we addicts can be so delusional…
I’m not sure if acknowledging my cellphone addiction is going to make a difference, because I have absolutely no intention to stop entirely.
Perhaps cut down?
Actually by the time you’ve read this, I would have checked in on FB, Google Analytics and Adsense, Bidorbuy, all my favourite forums, e-mail, News24.com, cricinfo, Supercricket…etc. etc. And that’s before yoga and breakfast.
To paraphrase Whitney Houston: All I can do is take it one day at a time, Oprah.

Friday night E-tv had another one of it’s controversial stories – the kind they thrive on.
They interviewed two criminals who stated their intentions to cash in on the soccer world cup this year. These would-be (and probably have-already) perpetrators clearly told the interviewer that they would be targeting tourists.
Firstly, I don’t understand why e-tv would feel the need to interview criminals at all in their news bulletins. Much less those planning a crime.
Secondly, why are they trying to portray our country in an even more negative light?
What is there to gain from negative reporting about a situation that hasn’t even taken place?
There is enough crime to report on that actually has taken place.
To make matters worse the informant who gave e-tv the story committed suicide.
Anything for a news story regardless of who it hurts.
Typical e-tv news.

This year is barely 20 days old and already things are not going according to plan.
In fact it’s been almost chaos – to my usually orderly world anyway.
You know what they say about the best layed plans of mice and men going awry.
So far:
1. My exercise programme that went so well towards the end of 2009, stuttered a bit since 1 January. It’s gotten a bit on track again, especially yoga and walking. But not strength trainining yet.
2. I wanted to be less involved in drama at the office and be more focussed on my own stuff, instead I got chosen as a staff rep again and co-opted into another team.
3. Worst of all I’m not sleeping well, not eating well, can’t get my thoughts in order. It might have something to do with a certain person. I absolutely hate not being in control of my emotions! Especially now when I have a crazy busy 4 months with studies and stuff.
If 2009 went according to plan – almost exactly, then 2010 looks like it will be a bit more chaotic than planned.
And I much prefer order.

I’m not very familiar with the world of supermodels and stuff, but give me a reality tv show and I’m
there.
Last night SABC 3 started “Make me a Supermodel”.
Having given that Bachelors and their sick momma’s a miss, I thought I would check out the new show, not thinking I would like it.
I’m not really sure if I liked the show or Tyson Beckford…but enjoy it I did. But hey, it’s a reality tv show and like I said, I love those.
None of the male contestants I saw had anything on Tyson.
That man is freaking HOT!
Arghhhh… let me just start working!
