Steven Spielberg last week confirmed that he signed up to direct a remake of the Jimmy Stewart film Harvey.

Why do they even want try to remake classics?

The film Harvey received much acclaim in 1950, there’s no way it can be improved on.

Harvey is a film about a pooka – mischievous creature from Celtic mythology who appears especially to outcasts – in the form of a 6ft 3 and a half foot rabbit named Harvey.

In this film the outcast is gentle drunk Elwood P Dowd, played by the great Jimmy Stewart.

Dowd introduces everyone to Harvey who only he can see, causing his sister and niece embarrasment.

They decide to have him committed to an asylum.

The film is based on Mary Chase’s Pulitzer prize winning play.

Tom Hanks was said to be Spielberg’s first choice to play Elwood P Dowd, but apparently declined.

Smart move that.

Now the search is on for a lead actor.

I seriously cant imagine how this new movie will be received, even if it is Steven Spielberg directing.
