Supersport Suspends Joost But Not Naas
Supersport created a slippery slope when they suspended Joost van der Westhuizen for what amounts to personal problems.
At the time Supersport claimed that the allegations (not yet proven beyond all doubt) was bad for the brand – a family brand.
Naas on the other hand fathered a child, paid child support and wanted nothing to do with the child.
What kind of family man ignores the emotional needs of his child?
The now 21 year old took Naas to court in 2000, but the judge threw out the case because he said, the court could not force a man to love his son.
What though is worse?
A rugby commentator using drugs in private and cheating on his wife or another commentator denying his (as far as we know) onely son who desperately longed for a relationship with him?
Actually, I think its none of our business – nor should Supersport have started making moral judgements regarding their employees.
Otherwise where does it all end?
Where do they draw the line on who is more morally able to talk about rugby?
