Rafa Nadal Out of French Open, OMG!
Wow! I’m in total shock!
Like many tennis fans I took it for granted that Rafael Nadal would at the very least make it to the French Open final and in all likelihood win the tournament as he did four times in the last four years!
As a Roger Federer fan it’s a relief of course. Although we’ll have to see how Federer responds. We won’t be counting chickens yet.
Anyway, Nadal was beaten for the first time at Roland Garos by the Swedish player Robin Soderling in 4 sets, 6-2 6-7 (2-7) 6-4 7-6 (7-2).
Understandably very disappointed, but also not very sportingly, Nadal declared:
“It was more my fault than him playing well. I didn’t play my best tennis and for that reason I lost. It wasn’t my day.”
Imagine one of the Williams sisters saying something like that and not be called all sorts of names.
This was 24 year old Soderberg’s biggest win of his career.
He joked that Bjorn Borg should at least be sending him an sms for halting Nadals waltz to another French Open title. Borg held 4 consecutive French Open titles – the same as Nadal.
