Mr Zuma Please Make that Idiot Give Back that Merc
In what world would it be okay for the new transport minister Sbu Ndebele to accept a brand new (or even dirt old) Mercedes Benz from business leaders in Kwazulu Natal?
President Zuma has to set the tone for his presidency right now and nip this kind of practice in the bud.
If this nonsense is allowed to continue, everything he has said about being a government for poor people will all be a big fat lie.
Who the heck cares why the gift was given – the fact remains, public servants should not accept valuable gifts from the people they should be serving.
Actually they should not be accepting any gifts from people they get paid to work for.
The gall of that man to even suggest that it is above board.
Why does anyone give away a R1.1 million car – if they received nothing in return?
Instead of accepting expensive Mercedes Benz vehicles from contractors, government officials should be getting those same people involved in building houses, schools, clinics or doing something useful for those who can’t do it for themselves.
Mr Ndebele earned a salary – paid for by us, the taxpayer – for the work he did as transport minister in KZN. There was no need for him to be compensated again – even if the gift was given in good faith (and that’s seriously debatable).
President Jacob Zuma better take a stand and make that idiot he chose in his cabinet give the Mercedes back or remove him from government.
Actually just remove the idiot – if he can’t see that receiving gifts from contractors is wrong, then maybe he shouldn’t be in a cabinet position at all.
