Vote Cape Party for Independent Cape Town

Written on March 26, 2009 – 6:31 am | by Glass Pearl |

There is never a dull moment in this town and this time it has nothing to do with our delusional, condescending mayor (who I offered to Jo’burg without any success – though I won’t give up trying!).

An apparently unknown 25 year old actor named Jack Miller  is leader of a political party called the Cape Party. One of their aims is to get the Cape to secede from South Africa and form an independent state!

This is the self same party who had their website hacked recently.  (Who hacks a website of a party we never even heard of?)

Miller, probably an out of work actor, saw a gap to showcase his talents locally instead of featuring in German adverts and offered is services as leader of the Cape Party.

Whether the Cape Party has merit or not, it makes one wonder how they intend to get famously apathetic Capetonians to do anything, much less secede.

And it’s not as if we don’t live in our own piece of paradise, unaware of the rest of South Africa.

The only time we even know there are other provinces is when they come down to Newlands to play cricket or rugby.

Oh and when we try to see around weather reporters when they stand  bang in front of our province at night.  I won’t even watch e-tv’s weather report, because it takes too long to get to the Cape.

Perhaps the Cape Party needs another platform, because come World Cup time I will not be shouting for the Stormers and Cape Cobras instead of the Springboks and Proteas.

For the rest, we are all but seceded from the rest of the country anyway.

How long have you been out of CT, Stormers fan?

I’m ashamed to say I have never been out of the WC, except going overseas.

Unfortunately coming up on 5 years. I live in Centurion, middle of good ol apartheid…still. Fucking freaks me out no end!

Oh and the only time I ever lived outside of Cape Town was the 2 trips we did to visit family in Oz and Dubai.

    Then we moved here….

    Stormers fan,

At least you’ll always have Cape Town to come home to one day.

    Vasbyt!

We THINK we’re isolated in the Cape but the point is that approximately 75% of taxes collected here is spent elsewhere in the country…
I don’t know much about the people behind the Cape Party, but you know what? I’m going to vote for them anyway today – even if it’s just a finger in the eye for the slimy lizards in the major parties!

You can read the Cape Party manifesto on this site:

I think they’ve been quite entertaining! One of the reasons we need small parties in our elections.

    Ich bin ein ‘Kaaplander’

‘Kaaplanders’ are a predominantly Afrikaans-speaking multi-racial people from the North, South and Western Cape of South Africa, originally known as ‘Kaapland’.

‘Kaaplanders’ are from European, Indian, African and Khoisan/San descent, who notwithstanding our diversity in skin colour and subtle ethnic complexities are bound together by a common language and culture.

We as ‘Kaaplanders’ love our Afrikaans language and we love our rich Cape cultural heritage. This is who we are. This is who I am.

That is why I am voting for the Cape Party at the next elections, the party for ‘Kaaplanders’, the party that speaks our language, the party that speaks for the Cape.

Have changed my mind about the Cape Party since. Seems to be a bunch of out-of-work university grad’s that have cottoned onto a very good idea, but for the purpose of gaining seats on the Metro Council for themselves, with no intention of doing anything for the Cape. Everywhere they seem to have gained very bad press for themselves. Met with them personally and there is not a single Afrikaans speaking Kaaplander amongst them?

We are greatly governed by our perceptions.

Capetonians are fortunate to live in a place(which they perceive as their country of SA)that is far removed from the real South Africa. I pity the one Capetonian, Stormers Fan, who made the comment that he/she has never been outside of CT except for visiting family abroad. Do yourself a favour and go see what Durban city is like and Jo’burg downtown at any time of the day and Pietersburg/Polokwane on a Saturday morning – this is the real South Africa where the people of this great country go about their business and life in general. Their ideals and hopes for a their country is far removed from yours. Cape Town is an island, a bubble far removed from the realities of the ‘other’ SA. When you have lived in JHB and have experienced the angst associated with being a potential victim of hijackings, assault, rape etc., because your wife was raped by two men, your mother was pistol-whipped in another incident and robbed of all her jewelery, and you know the people you read about in newspapers being hurt in incidents of crime. Your children(all under 10), out of necessity, had to be taught a drill of what to do in case of a hi-jack or armed break-in. I know because I moved my family from JHB a year ago and settled in a small town outside of CT for some peace of mind.

Do you know what I think when I go shopping, in the small town I currently live in where almost everybody is as ignorant as you are ‘Stormers fan’ and the rest of Capetonians in general, when a foreign french speaking African parking attendant asks for small change to watch my car – I cant tell you except that I battle to understand how this SOAB managed to get a visa into this country to watch my car. Keep him hungry enough for a few days and he is going to help himself to something in my house – I know!!. I have been visiting, as a tourist, the town I now live in for the last 12 years before semi-grating here. I have never seen so many of these foreign aliens roaming the streets of this plattelandse dorp. But will you know? – just last week there were 3 armed robberies in this peaceful town. It is happening…….

The point I wish to make is that Capetonians – who generally are intoxicated by their beautiful ‘country’ – might loose it to significant ‘others’ because they are so ignorant to what the real SA and its people, outside of the Western Cape borders, really look like, what their needs are and what it is that they aspire to if any. Do me a favour AH and educate yourself just a little by reading the views, opinions and political analysis of local and international commentaries on SA as we stand at the moment. It doesn’t differ much from 10 years ago and wont differ much in 10 years from now – take my free advice! Find yourself a good immigration lawyer OR become a victim OR join a far right wing group OR TRY AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE WHERE YOURE AT!!!!, in the Cape of Good Hope.

I don’t care who the Cape Party candidates are – their policy is workable and their manifest a beautiful example of a … if they are not up for it I will put my influence behind anyone together with people like ‘Kaaplander’ to realise and manifest a solution as presented by Cape Party. It is ambitious however, to hope for complacent Capetonians to join a pro-active campaign to free the Cape.

Does any Capetonian have ideas on how to wake up its people? I support the ideology of the Cape Party and see myself together with every person in the Western Cape who has the vision to claim independence from the rest of SA based on language, culture and economy.

despise not the day of small beginnings …

it’s somewhat astonishing to read that people dismiss the Cape Party on the grounds that “seems to be a bunch of out-of-work university grad’s” … appearances can be deceptive, especially when you have to ask yourself .. how these unemployed persons got the money together to stand in the provincial election in the first place … given that the deposit alone was R40k, a deposit that was lost due to not receiving sufficient votes.

The funds came out of our own pockets, so before anyone wants to criticise, stop and ask yourself how much hard cash you’ve put into making the dream of an Independent Cape a reality … and until you can at least match the contributions of “a bunch of out of work grads” (sic) I’d hold my tongue.

  17. By Richard H Stephenson on Apr 26, 2010 | Reply

… and what a terrible shame that it’s the unemployed Anglo first language speakers that have stood up and forked out their own hard earned cash and time to fight for the rights of Afrikaners … and all we get in return is a kick in the teeth and slap in the face …

As a young South African who has seen most of the country, I agree that the Cape is a completely different place. The people in the rest of South Africa are completely different. If you think I’m talking about black people specifically, you’re wrong. I’ve lived in Cape Town my whole life but find myself living in Randburg the past year. All the English and Afrikaans people I’ve met are very different and feel completely differently about Africa and the country. I’m voting Cape Party because I want success in Africa for people like me.

If you want something to be a success you need to get to work. I suggest the Cape Party has a conference and invite all interested parties and then see what action can be taken to achieve our goal. The numbers are not important to start with, just people who have idea’s and commitmant. There are two types of people those who critizise and those who get working. As we move forward it will become evident to all that we mean business. The East of this country is the home of the Nguni peoples. All those who live on the East side and believe and feel as we do should move to the West side which is going to get independance eventually.

” ,, out of work university grads” will be a refreshing change from the “have never worked” primary school drop-outs we have looting the country at the moment.

Hi, waited for someone ambitious, who believes in them-self first and then they dedicate them-self to a truly great idea!

If this is possible don’t you think us as true Capetonians would do well for ourselves? especially since the fear of non-alien immigration is not without suspicion.

We could become the comfortably Isolated Ibiza,we could become THE HONG KONG of Africa – the true spark of Africa…

Perhaps Ill vote for for the first time.

The Cape Party certainly has my support….
I Heard Jack Miller have his 2 minutes of fame this morning on 702 / Cape Talk, and was truly blown away to hear that someone had started a party based on an ideology that I have believed in for the some time now….
We live in Pretoria, so the current racist majority politics in SA, that has given us an unconvicted criminal as president and a black supremacist as his leiutenant, has my family and I feeling very vulnerable, and very unsure of the future.
I have the future of my 10 year old daughter to consider, and we are very seriuosly considering immigration, not because we want to, but because we feel politically disenfranchised and helpless to ensure our family prosperity and safety.
I really feel that the Cape Party has merit, and wish them well…I know that I will be first in line to “immigrate” back to the place of my birth!

Great to hear from our brothers in concern from up country, I think unity is the key and we should each in our own corner profess this dream, almost like a virus as it were, just like bad things spread like wild fire so do good things, I have 3 children under 8 years old and am also considering immigration – perhaps we don’t need too…we’ll certainly prosper in “Capeland”.

Let me get to the point. I live in Salt Lake City. I support the cause of independence for the Cape. I’m planning on residing in Capetown permanently part of the year. From your comment on the Internet I detected an Afrikans bias. Thus my email to you. The Cape Party’s official platform is multi-racial. I’m asking a favor from you. Can you tell me how I can make contact with someone of a political party or social organization that plumps for an all-white European nation carved out of some of the land of the Greater Cape? As an American I can tell you that a multi-racial society doesn’t work. Do the present leaders of the Cape Party think that their new multi-racial nation will somehow succeed where all other such societies have failed. I could give you the inter-racial crime statistics for America that have exploded since Negroes were given their “rights.” But I won’t waste your time. Let me simply say that the color of crime in America is the same as the color of crime in South Africa, as in England, as in France, as in Brazil–black. I would appreciate any help you can give me regarding my request for contacts.

    Thanx,
    Stephen

Why do people really waste their time in involving themselves with something they do not understand. To you sceptic’s first read our Cape of Good Hope history not the rubbish taught in the schools to day and the nonsence handed out to tourists who visit the Cape of Good Hope in the form of a pamphlet stating that the Xhosa people were the first in the Cape of Good Hope. The DA and the ANC are hell bent on trying to africanise the Cape. One just needs to look at all the street name changes in Cape Town alone. If they want to change names our Capetonian peoples names must be used not at the expense of our history !!!! If you are happy living in South Africa just remember we are not part of your country. The 1910 union which was forced onto us in the Cape of Good Hope by the British if challenged in the world court would not stand as this unlawful union was forced onto us. We are the Rep of the Cape of Good Hope and all those who wish to become Capetonians are welcome. We already have an unique culture called the Cape, Dutch, East, Indian culture and all are welcome to live here. What we do not want is for people to come here and try to set up their own culture at the expense of the culture which has taken almost 400 years to develope to its present state. First the British, then the NP and now the ANC with the DA have tried and are trying to stop our drive for freedom and independence. In the end they will not succeed we will become independent.
