Why Does Rihana Stay with Chris Brown?
Last Thursday Chris Brown was charged with assault likely to cause bodily injury and making criminal threats.
After the assault, which left Rihana with bruises on her face, on 8 February, Rihana took out a protective order against Chris, according to nydailynews.com, stating that Brown could not:
“harass, strike, threaten, assault (sexually or otherwise), follow, stalk, molest, destroy or damage personal or real property, disturb the peace, keep under surveillance or block movements of” Rihana.
At the court hearing though Riana’s lawyer stated that she no longer needed the protective order.
What’s going on here though? Why is Riana still with Chris Brown?
The question really is why do women stay with men who abuse them.
Last week in a reported survey, 6 out of 10 women surveyed internationally (and nearly 7 out of 10 South African women) consider themselves financially independent.
We women have come a long way and a lot has to do with shows like the Suze Orman, Oprah show, O Magazine and others that asks us to live to our potential.
We know we can get the education we want, have children independently if we want or first get married and then have a family, work from home, travel all over the world if we choose and still have a myriad of other opportunities.
Why then does someone like Rihana who is much more financially able than the ordinary woman, still stay with a man who beat her up?
Lack of self-esteem, first love, not enough life experience, etc. probably all contributes.
It’s easy to see from the outside that a relationship isn’t healthy and hopefully over time Rihana, like many women before her, will gain enough confidence to know when enough is enough.
With any luck she will come out of that abusive relationship with a strong career, like Tina Turner did.
The longer she stays with Chris Brown, the more she will be that poor abused woman.
Either way, whether she stays or goes, it’s her choice
