Today is Square Root Day 3/3/9

Written on March 3, 2009 – 3:21 pm | by Glass Pearl |

Who knew the good old square root would get a day to be doted on.

Some of the more fortunate amongst us might not understand the blank look when confronted with the word square root, not to mention given a ridiculous number and then told to give the square root of that!

Anyway, this celebration has nothing to do with nerds, Math geeks nor Maths teachers wracking poor children over the knuckles for giving wrong answers.

It has to with the calendar that reads 3/3/9.  The month and day is the square root of the year.  Or mathematically as √9 = 3, or 3² = 3 × 3 = 9 .

Argghhh I feel a headache coming on!

Fortunately this is a rare holiday.  The next one will only be 04/04/16.  That would be 4 April 2016 for those who black out at number sequences.
