Two Oceans 21km Update: Week 23 February

Last week’s training started of well. Monday evening I had a good 60 minute run, without any hassles.

The days after went off-kilter – wayyyy off!

First I had to adjust my programme for someone who made an appointment – saying she’d arrive after 5 and then turned up at 5.45. That really threw me, because I ate too late and then couldn’t train.

The next day, Thursday, I felt sick and had to stop after a few minutes and Friday I could only do about 20 minutes. No workouts, just running.

I took Saturday off.

Sunday morning was the worst of all – I could barely run for a minute without heaving. I completed a walk run and added a bridge in for good measure. Those 45 minutes was really frustrating and upsetting.

I realised that all my training had been in the evenings. Running in the morning was something else for me. I have never done well with any sort of training in the morning.

Unless the Two Oceans Half Marathon gets changed to the evening (which I’m pretty sure won’t be happening ever), I will have to switch my training time around.

Nevertheless, Monday evening I was back at it. Training went well again, although I trained for only 30 minutes running and another 10 minutes work out.

I alternated running fast and slow – only slowing down when I felt tired.

This is a crunch week for me – I will have to decide whether to register for the 21km or not. By next Monday I will know for sure!
