Cricket: SA vs Australia

What a let down today was,  after a fantastic summer down under.  Where was that fighting team that went to Australia?

The West Indies is showing more nerve at the wicket in their current series against England!

It was so disappointing to see a good team under perform.  And the way Graeme Smith lost his wicket in the second innings, probably told a story of a team that were not going to stay at the crease for a full day.

What happened with Dale Steyn’s bowling?  At the Wanderers one would have expected a bit better from him.

It’s easy to blame the players, because we see them not performing as one would have expected, but I’m sure they’re even more disappointed than us the fans.

The biggest culprits in this loss is Mike Proctor and his fellow selectors.  They should have included Ashwell Prince in the squad, if not the team.  Instead we heard how hard it was to leave Prince out and how sorry they were to have to choose JP Duminy based on his performances in Australia.  Whatever!

The brave and smart thing to do would have been to pick one of their most reliable players over the past few seasons and then picked between Duminy and the undeserving Neil Mckenzie.

If Graeme Smith and the team thinks Mckenzie brings soooo much to the dressing room, then he can be picked as a twelfth man or team vice-psychologist or something.

South Africa however needs someone to steady the middle order until Jacques Kallis is consistently scoring hundreds again.  AB de Villiers can’t be expected to carry the middle order alone!

Anyway the Proteas are now in the position of underdogs again,  a position they have recently enjoyed.  They’ve come from behind a few times in the last year or so and gone onto win matches.

I’m sure they’ll come back fighting – it would just be nice to know that they have a fighting man in the team instead of having him play domestic cricket back in Port Elizabeth.

    Hi Zain,
I won’t use the word “chokers”, because the Proteas have performed brilliantly in Australia.
This current series is very disappointing though.

    Hi tshikita,

Looks like Smith will be ready for the 1 dayers! He’s one of the best, isn’t he? Although Johan Botha did the job well in Australia.
