Of Botox and Hens Teeth – Zille vs Manuel
Trevor Manuel has gotten into electioneering mode, it seems.
On Wednesday he made a jab about Helen Zille’s now famous botox injection, saying that the leaders of opposition parties were not aware of the economic crisis because their leaders had gone off for botox injections.
This sort of thing may be standard fare in other countries’ election campaigns, but I have never seen it get that personal before in this country. Mind you, we have only had 3 legitimate elections so far.
Thursday Manuel again brought up Zille’s botox treatment in parliament this time.
After the DA’s Mike Ellis presented Manuel with a picture showing a hen with teeth (after Manuel had previously stated that the DA would rule this country when hens got teeth), Trevor Manuel replied with “Is this the result of a facelift or of an injection of botulinum poison?”.
Admittedly each time I see the huge poster of Helen Zille’s face on my local bus stop, I get the giggles. All I think of is the botox conversation she had with Mike Wills on Cape Talk when she said she did not have herself injected for her own vanity.
She did it to look presentable for the people.
Thank you for the laugh Helen Zille!
And Trevor Manuel.
