Strictly Come Dancing – Computers don’t make mistakes!

This season’s South African version of Strictly Come Dancing hasn’t been blessed with a great range of personalities and dancers. Actually it has been a snooze-fest only interrupted by bad presenting and a few technical errors.

Compared to last year’s Emmanuel Castis, none of the current crop are worth mentioning.

As an admitted reality tv junkie I tuned in last Thursday night for the usual, was quite satisfied that the worst dancer was voted off. Until this morning when I caught up on a few days worth of blogs and found that the worst dancer actually wasn’t voted off.

In my opinion ex-gladiator Garth deservedly was voted off for pretty bad dancing, but the voting public didn’t agree and according to the producers, a computer glitch caused him to be in the dance off, instead of a much, much better dancer.

That’s what you get when the public votes! The worst dancer gets to dance another day.

Blaming computers is not cool! Computers don’t make mistakes, Strictly Come Dancing producers!!! People do and the voting public does not like to hear about mistakes with reality programme votes.

Over the years we’ve had our fair share with Idols then recently the High School Musical talent show.

Not that we are the only country dealing with reality tv craziness.

Less than a month ago the BBC had their own set of reality tv problems when 2 black dancers (rated highest by the judges) ended up having to dance in the bottom two, causing a public outcry. The BBC had to shut down their website for awhile due to the public venting!

Can we please borrow Sarah Palin?

By now the world should not be surprised by the Alaskan governer, Sarah Palin’s goings on. She may yet be the saving grace of YouTube (if they ever needed saving).

Who could script the madness that Sarah Palin provides – and on-camera, nogal?

Even in South Africa where slaughtering of animals form part of many cultural practices, I have never seen anything on tv quite like the latest Sarah Palin interiew – with turkeys being slaughtered in the background.

Remember when the media reported about the cleansing ceremony when Tony Yengeni was released from prison and his family and friends ritually slaughtered an animal and the uproar from animal rights groups?

The debate about cruelty to animals vs cultural practice will probably continue for a long time in this country, even though ritual slaughter takes place practically every day in the townships.

Most locals at one time or another have been part of a ceremony where offering an animal forms part of either tribal or religious ceremony and are not as shocked as residents in the suburbs.

As for Sarah Palin…we already have our own Barack Obama wannabe, a host of John McCain style military veterans and political prisoners and old school Joe Biden-like politicians, all we need is our very own political jokester ala Sarah Palin.

Hugh Jackman – 2008′s Sexiest Man??

People magazine put out their annual sexiest men and Hugh Jackman is crowned king sexiest of them all for 2008.We waz robbed, me thinks.

Not that Hugh isn’t gorgeous, because he is! He is Australian and that’s 10 points against him (but 5 points for him ’cause the Aussies are playing crap cricket).

When she heard the news, Nicole Kidman was quoted as saying “Women’s jaws drop when Hugh walks into a room.” This is the woman who was married to Tom Cruise for 10 years though.

The list admittedly does includes two of my favourites, Daniel Craig and Blair Underwood.

There simply isn’t anyone half as hot as James Bond! Certainly not Wolverine, for heaven’s sake!

A new favourite who also made the list is Lipstick Jungle’s Robert Buckley.

Other’s who I would have not even included in my top 10000000 is Zac Efron (maybe sexiest girl list?), Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek is sooo over!), David Beckham (see Zac Efron) and Michael Phelps (why?????).

Yahoooooooo!

Other than subscribing to a multitude of rss feeds, I’m addicted to news aggregator sites like google news, muti, amatomu, techmeme, and a whole host of others.

So it was with great delight that I discovered Yahoo’s latest creation when I opened my Outlook rss feeds this morning. It is called Yahoo Glue and can be found at http://glue.yahoo.com/

It has all the latest results from various sources, including images, videos, news, blogs, articles, etc.

Yahoo will apparently not be replacing Yahoo Search, but use this as an additional tool. Since the site only went live very recently, the amount of topics are a limited number for now.
As long as the results are current and relevant, it can only be good for us aggregator addicts.
